A Family Holiday to Lake Garda

A great option for a family holiday that is full of beauty, fun, and a little Italian charm is Lake Garda. Me and my family done a week long holiday in July to a beautiful spot on the lake. Here are the results, some money-saving advice, and an analysis of the overall holiday and if its worth it!

We stayed in Bella Italia camping village. Here you have the choice to camp, stay in their hotel or in the bungalows. We chose to stay in a bungalow as there was 5 of us and it was the best choice as it was so close to everything. On the site they have 4 different swimming pools/waterparks, restaurants and easy access to the lake. There was so many activities to do at Bella Italia like water sports and there was evening entertainment and fireworks so I highly recommend staying here for families with young children.

The weather at Lake Garda in July was amazing. During the day the weather was around 28-32 degrees which was perfect for the outdoor pools and sunbathing down at the lake. The evenings were cooler but still warm enough to sit outside or walk along the lake. If your not a fan of the heat I would recommend visiting around Spring time.

One activity we done outside of the resort was a boat trip to Sirmoine. We got a ferry from Peschiera (cheap and easy to book online), and cruising across the lake was gorgeous. Sirmoine was a beautiful town that had unreal views. Sirmione is home to some of the best ice cream we had on the trip, with shops around every corner. The mix of history, natural beauty, and Italian charm is unbeatable. It’s a must-see if you’re visiting Lake Garda, and it’s easy to explore in a day.

Venice is just a 1.5-hour train ride from Peschiera del Garda, so we couldn’t pass up the chance to visit. Book train tickets in advance to secure the best fares. We left early to make the most of the day and spent hours wandering the canals and tiny streets. St. Mark’s Square was super crowded, but seeing the basilica was worth it. We skipped pricey gondola rides and took a Vaporetto (water bus) instead, which was a fun and way cheaper alternative. The views of the palaces and bridges from the water are breathtaking. You can not come to Italy without seeing Venice !

Moving on to food, Bella Italia Camping Village has several on-site restaurants, and they’re great if you want a break from cooking. One night, we dined at Corte Riga, their main restaurant, and the pizza was amazing. On site there is also a takeaway spot serving the best pizza and pasta.  They have a bakery on site for fresh pastries in the morning! If your looking to save money and cook your own meals there is a grocery store on site too.

So is it worth it? 100%. Lake Garda has something for everyone, and staying at Bella Italia Camping Village makes it easy to relax and explore. Add in a day trip to Venice, and you’ve got the perfect mix of family fun and Italian culture. It’s not the cheapest destination, but with a bit of planning, it’s absolutely worth it.
